How to Remove a Stain from The Sofa?

We all know that the sofa is the liveliest room in the house. We spend many hours there, we share moments with loved ones, we watch films and for some, we even eat there. Fabric sofa, imitation sofa, or velvet sofa, discover our tips for removing a stain from your sofa.

A few precautions to take

To avoid having to clean the upholstery of your sofa, you can protect your sofa on a daily basis with a sofa cover. One or more large plaids can also do the trick. This way, nothing will touch your sofa and no stains can soak in.

To properly clean your sofa, here are some tips:

  • Whatever stain removal solution you use, even if you know it and have used it before, test it on an inconspicuous part of the sofa (for example the back of the sofa).
  • Apply your washing solution all over your sofa: do not wash only the stain at the risk of leaving a halo. Wash the entire surface of your sofa.
  • Maintaining your sofa is essential. It should be vacuumed regularly with a vacuum cleaner with a suitable nozzle and clean light soiling with a damp cloth.
  • Be very delicate. The upholstery of a sofa remains fragile: you should not be relentless or press too hard on it to try to make the stain disappear.
  • Act immediately on a stain to prevent it from becoming too impregnated.

Clean your fabric sofa

The fabric sofa is probably the most common covering in interiors around the world. Indeed, it is simple, can therefore match many decorations, and is available in many colors to suit all needs. Maintenance is therefore quite simple:

  • You can create a stain-removing solution by mixing white vinegar and lukewarm water. This is probably the easiest solution to obtain since it is 2 thinners that everyone has.
  • For dry cleaning, you can use Terre de Sommières. Indeed, the soil of Sommières has known and recognized virtues for cleaning. You will have to apply it evenly on your sofa and let it act for a few hours. You can then suck up the excess. The ideal is to leave it on overnight.
  • You can also use baking soda with water. You will need to brush your sofa using a soft bristle brush with this solution.

Wash your velvet sofa

Chic thanks to its upholstery, the velvet sofa can be scary at first when it comes to maintenance. Yet we assure you: it is very easy to maintain and clean!

  • You can opt for dry cleaning with talc. Talc is effective on a velvet sofa for recent stains that are not yet too impregnated. It will have to be left to act for several hours and then suck up the excess.
  • The mixture of ammonia, water, and dishwashing liquid also works very well. You will need to use a clean cloth to clean your velvet sofa with this solution.

Caring for your faux sofa

  • To clean your faux leather sofa, you can use make-up remover milk, a well-known technique for faux leather! You will apply it with a cotton pad.
  • You can also use a soap designed for leather. This type of soap also works on faux leather.
  • The mixture of claystone and white vinegar is also recognized as a faux sofa. It will have to be applied with a sponge or a soft brush on the entire surface of your sofa by making circular movements.

Whatever your sofa: fabric sofa, faux leather, or velvet sofa, known and effective remedies exist to maintain or clean them.
